At Cape Town Swim, we offer guided open water swimming experiences for all levels of swimmers. If you’re visiting Cape Town or looking to join a community of swimmers who love the ocean and the outdoors, you’ve come to the right place. We offer private and group training programs from beginner to advanced. Whether you’re new to open water or have the goal of completing the iconic Robben Island Swim, we have the training solution for you. We welcome both skins (costume) and wetsuit swimmers; all you need is a swim cap, goggles, and a courageous spirit! We are all about having fun and staying safe while enjoying our beautiful Cape coastlines.
We offer regular guided group ocean swims throughout the year. Our membership is a great way to commit to weekly ocean swims, maintaining your fitness while surrounded by incredible scenery and enjoying the company of your teammates. Our weekly sessions take place at Clifton, Simon’s Town and Blouberg, and as a member you enjoy access to all swim locations as well as access to the Glen Country Club facilities. Each sessions covers approximately a mile (1.6km) in distance, depending on the conditions. To join as a member, you need to have some experience swimming in open water (ocean, river or dam), and must be comfortable swimming at least a mile.CLICK TO JOIN
Our beginner courses are a great way to safely transition from pool to open water. We run introductory courses over the summer months, which consist of 4 weekly sessions at a tidal pool (Atlantic and False Bay). This environment provides an ideal setting to learn new skills such as cold water adaptation, sighting and ocean safety, so that you are well prepared when heading into the big blue ocean. To sign up for our Intro Courses, you need to be able to swim at least 200m (8 lengths) continuously in a pool.READ MORE
If you’re an experienced open water swimmer looking to take your swimming to the next level, our advanced courses will help prepare you for your next long distance open water swim. If you’ve been dreaming of swimming from Robben Island to Blouberg, around Cape Point, or taking part in one of the many open water events around the peninsula, our 12-Week Advanced Training Plan will help turn that dream into a reality. We recommend being comfortable swimming at least 2km in the ocean, and to have a few months of ocean swimming experience before starting our advanced training.READ MORE
Below are 5 key benefits of cold water swimming:
1. Boosts Immune System: Regular exposure to cold water can increase the production of white blood cells, which helps strengthen the immune system. This may lead to a reduced incidence of colds and respiratory infections
2. Enhances Mental Health: Cold water swimming is known to trigger the release of endorphins, which can improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Many swimmers report feeling euphoric after their swims
3. Improves Circulation: The cold water causes blood vessels to constrict and then dilate, which can enhance blood circulation. This process helps flush toxins from the body and can improve cardiovascular health
4. Reduces Inflammation: Cold water immersion has been shown to lower inflammation in the body, which can aid in recovery from injuries and reduce chronic pain
5. Promotes Social Connections: Many people engage in cold water swimming as part of a community or group, fostering social interactions that can enhance overall well-being and provide a sense of belonging.
We look forward to having you join the team!
